There is an old Bengali film wherein the heroine is a Christian and the hero, a Hindu. They were dogmatic about their religious beliefs and disbeliefs. Though they got married, but there was no Understanding, Harmony and Love in their lives. They used to quarrel over trifles. Their married life was in tension and turmoil.
They had one Bengali servant who was Hindu by birth. He was illiterate and simple. He used to do all his work smiling while singing. One day while doing his daily chores, he was singing a bhajan (religious song) : –
"Bhajamana Nanda Ghoser Nandane".
O' mind, always remember the child playing in the garden of Nanda Gosh(i.e. Krishna)
Hearing this, the Christian wife got displeased and asked the servant not to sing that Hindu bhajan. She said, he should rather sing : -
‘’Bhajamana Mary Mataar Nandane’’.
(O' mind, always remember the Son of Mother Mary i.e. Jesus)
Immediately he started singing this. Hearing this, the Hindu husband became furious. He scolded the servant and forbade him to sing this Christian song. He ordered him to sing the Hindu bhajan only.
Instantly, the servant started singing –
" Bhajamana Mary Ghosher Nandane".
(O' mind, always be in the Garden of Mary Ghosh).
Now the Hindu husband and the Christian wife, both were astonished to hear this bhajan of innocence spontaneously bringing Mary and Ghosh together. They could see the wisdom of Life and Love in the being of this simple servant.
They could see that there was no reaction and resentment in the servant and he was happy all the time in his innocence, whereas they were in agitation and tension, because of their beliefs and dogmas.
They could see that for Understanding and Love to be:
- One must be free from religious beliefs and disbeliefs.
- One must be free from cultural inputs and conditionings.
- One must be free from following and conforming. Instead, One should flower in one's own energy of understanding.
Jai Innocence!
