The Nutmeg’s curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis.
Amitabh Gosh recounts the story of an eminent Professor of Botany who accompanied a young man from a local village to guide him through the rain forest. The young man was able to identify each of the various plant species. His acumen stunned the Professor, who complimented him for his knowledge. But the young man replied, with humility : ‘Yes, I have learned the names of all the bushes, but I am yet to hear the songs, which my father used to hear and dance to throughout, while going around’.
Eminent Professor of Biology as also a Medical Doctor of high reputation, Dr Siddhartha Mukherjee has written the book entitled ‘’The Song of the Cell’’ (377 paged Prize winning big book) which Shibendu Lahiri has read, page by page, line by line, very carefully. And his heart indeed danced with the SONG!
Sri Sri Maa’s utterance applies to Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee also, as follows:
To know Medical Science is good,
To practice Medicine to cure patients is better,
To be the humble Bengali Brahmin is perfect.
His humility is demonstrated, when he said : ‘’ True knowledge is to be aware of one’s ignorance’’.
Jai Cell-Song!
